History of the Livingston County Women’s Chorus
In 1997 the Livingston County Chorale’s Board of Directors recognized the need for another singing group in the county to meet the needs of the many talented female singers in the area. This led to the establishment of the Livingston County Women’s Chorus under the direction of Patti Marshall-Doane.. The Chorus strives to perform a variety of musical genres such as classical (both sacred and secular), folk, jazz, and Broadway show tunes.
Since the Women’s Chorus debut concert in December of 1998, the group has performed regularly in the county, often in concert with the Chorale and the Youth (formerly Children’s) Choir. The Women’s Chorus has also had opportunities to collaborate with other marvelous musical groups such as:
The Detroit Symphony Orchestra
The Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra
Measure for Measure: A Men’s Choral Society
The University of Michigan Women’s Glee Club
Carillon Women’s Chorale
The many choirs involved in the ACDA Michigan Women’s choral festival at Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor
In spring of 2005, the Women’s Chorus initiated its first Musical Revue concert of popular and Broadway music, a performance tradition that continues biennially, with the most recent musical revue, A Sentimental Journey, performed on April 27 and 28, 2013.
In May of 2014, Founding Director, Patti Marshall-Doane retired as Director of the Women’s Chorus. Karen Roberts directed from 2014-2020, and Sarah Hunt directed from 2020-2023. Sarah Stockton has been hired as the new Women’s Chorus Director.
Livingston County Choirs exists to provide musical excellence by uniting all people through inspiring concert performances, education, community engagement and support.
