Choirs: Women’s Chorus

Sarah Stockton is an active adjudicator and the President of the Michigan Schools Vocal Music Association. In 2020, she spearheaded a state-wide curriculum for remote, hybrid and concurrent teaching. She has been a Michigan Music Conference and Summer Conference presenter as well as the District 4 Manager and State Solo and Ensemble Supervisor. Additionally, Mrs. Stockton was selected as the 2020 6-7-8 SA Honors Choir Director and 2021 Teacher of the Year. She has most recently created the framework for a state-wide teacher mentorship program.

In 2018, Sarah was honored to become a choral staff member for the Michigan Ambassadors of Music. She traveled to England, France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Liechtenstein, and Germany during the summer of 2019. Mrs. Stockton was a 2016 and 2017 Chairman’s Award Nominee for Educator of the Year by the Grand Blanc Chamber of Commerce, and was recently nominated for the 2021-2022 Michigan Teacher of the Year program.

Since 2006, Mrs. Stockton has previously held positions as the Vocal Music Director at Walled Lake Western High School, Grand Blanc High School, and Grand Blanc West Middle School. She served as the Artistic Director for the New Century Chorale, a Flint-area adult community choir. She has served as a frequent soprano soloist and guest conductor, as well as private voice and piano instructor for Southeast and Mid-Michigan.

Sarah holds a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Michigan State University, studying under Dr. David Rayl and Dr. Jonathan Reed, and a Bachelor of Music Education from Central Michigan University. Her mentor, Dr. Nina Nash-Robertson (CMU) passed away in 2018, but has made a lasting impact on her teaching.

Sarah is currently focusing her time as a support to Vocal Music teachers in the state of Michigan, through instructional and curricular resources. She works as a corporate and freelance Instructional Designer, Clinician, and Consultant.
